Biography

Xinhua Jian is a distinguished professor at the School of Economics and Management, Nanchang University, and at the School of Economics and Management, Wuhan University. Born in 1947, two years before the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, he grew up in New China. He experienced both the successful period of socialist construction, epitomised by the slogan “Two Bombs, One Satellite”, and the serious setbacks of movements such as the Anti-Rightist Campaign, the Great Leap Forward, and the Cultural Revolution. He worked as a farmer for almost three years and as a factory worker for eight years. In 1977, aged 30, he was admitted to Wuhan University when China restarted its university entrance exams. His economic education began in 1978, coinciding with China’s reform and opening-up. Since then, he has participated in China’s entire reform and development process. His work mainly involves studying and applying Marxist political economy, as well as researching and analysing issues in China’s economy.
