Hiroshi Onishi was born in 1956 in Kyoto. He completed a PhD in the School of Economics at Kyoto University. He served as a professor at Kyoto University for 21 years and at Keio University for 13 years. He is currently Professor Emeritus of both universities. He is also Vice Chair of the World Association for Political Economy (WAPE) and former president of the Institute of Fundamental Economic Science and the Northeast Asian Studies Association. His main research field is Marxian formal economics, and published over 20 single author books, including Marxian Economics: A New Japanese Tradition (Pluto Press, London, 2023); Marxian Economics (3rd ed.) (Keio University Press, Tokyo, 2020); Marxian Formal Economics on Politics (Keio University Press, 2021) and “Zero Population” and Capital (Kodansya, 2023).
