He Ganqiang is a professor in the Faculty of Economics at Nanjing University of Finance and Economics. He is an advisor to the Chinese Political Economy Association, and his research focuses on capital and the contemporary Chinese economy. He has published two books in Chinese: Theoretical Logic of Capital (2001) and The Paradigm of Economic Analysis of Historical Materialism and Its Application (2009). After graduating from high school in the 1960s, He volunteered to join a state-owned farm for production and construction during the “Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside" movement. While working on the farm, he began reading Das Kapital. In 1979, with the farm management's approval, he applied for a master's degree in political economy at Fujian Normal University as a self-taught candidate. Admitted to the programme under the supervision of Professor Chen Zheng, an expert on Das Kapital, and Professor Luo Yanming, a political economy expert, He began his academic career. He is one of China's older generation of political economists.
